Comments: | Hila is the best! I went from 94-96 I think, and its still some of my happiest childhood memories. From hanging out in the barn, to developing my -own-pictures, trying the clone carrots, listening to Cranberries in the bio garage, and Soundgarden in the barn. And Anne. Being Anne. The coolest. And Alex taking us out to the elm tree to take pictures. Wayne had the first scanner I'd ever seen in real life. Staff was great, Carol, Wayne and Ian are amazing people. I'm finishing my last year at McGill in Anthropology. Wayne was the first one to show me about fossils, and I never looked back. Best Wishes, |

Comments: | I was a camper four consecutive years between 1986-90 (almost at the
beginning). Loved it from the first day. Wayne and Carol have created an
environment for learning that has no equal in my experience. Rocketry, electronics,
model aircraft, astronomy; I did lots of great stuff at Hila. I'm now an
Aeronautical Engineer in a small design firm in Calgary. Design, drafting,
analysis, fabrication, and testing, I get to do it all at my job (not unlike
Hila). W&C deserve a lot of credit for helping me on the way. (BTW, Marc Auger, I remember you. Do you remember the robot I was trying to get to work? I finally succeeded, but something burned out after a few hours and it never worked again.) Monday April 11th 2003 09:22:11 |

Comments: A long time ago I a was a camper and a counsellor and thanks to the camp I have built and driven three race cars through school. The skills I learned and developed through HILA have helped me work as a Mechanical Engineer for DaimlerChrysler as well as a Design Engineer for GM. Due to the thirst for knowledge I developed at HILA I am back in school pursuing a Master's in Mechanical Engineering. HILA is the best camp out there to broaden a kids mind. |
Name: Stephen Cartwright E-mail address: common_lies@yahoo.com Comments: I went to Hila for 7 years (I think) and worked at Turnbul a week one summer its been about three years since I've seen everyone so I though I drop a line. I will always have fond memories of that little road by the church, the barn and Ian loft. I'm still addicted to Eucher. The weeks I spent at Hila were weeks where I could be myself and be accepted. It gave me a skill set and a thirst for knowledge that help me to this day. But most importantly it gave me a sense of confidence and entrepreneurship. (like lets build a 2 1/2 tonne concreate dam) Thanks to all but especially to Wayne, Carol and Ian.
Hey and if any of my old eucher buddies see this drop me a line.

Comments: Hi wayn I heard about Mayan Quest this morning as I was cooling down from a short excersie period. The TV Stimulated my cureosity so I did what the guide on TV said and read about your mayan trip. He thought that the civilization was destroyed by civil war. Very interesting thought. The Book or Morman People used to be in this area with an advanced civilization and slotered them selves in a series of tremendous battles. Toward the end to the book it talkes about armys of thousands of people fighting and it could be that these ruins are from that period and those very people. I will be interested in your continued research. Thanks Bill |

Comments: I just came back from Playa del Carmen, and visited Tulum. I saw your page regarding a sight hole in one of the Temples. I do know that at the Mayan Archaelogical Sight (or "ruin"), Chichen Itza, there is a phenomenal astronomical event which occurs every equinox (March 21 and September 21), when the shadow of the setting sun makes it appear as though a snake is descending the stairs of the Temple. The event draws large crowds, according to the literature I read. It is likely that at Tulum on a particular day (or days), of the year, this sight hole at the Temple draws in the sun which falls upon the insignia over the door. One of the Priests or Lords whom lived in the city of Tulum would likely declare whatever holy day was significant to them when this event occured. |

Thanks, in part to your great enthusiasm for science and your willingness to develop that in others, I not only have become a true science enthusiast but have been rewarded by receiving the Science Medallion at my graduation this year. Comments: Yes, I agree... Hila is probably the best camp i've been to even though i've only gone to the day camp part. For three summers i've been to the 'Greenborough'(excuse my spelling) day camp and the RA Sports camp, Aerotech camp (aviation) however Hila blows them right outa the sky. Different topic.... Wayne, I checked the /forest section of this website and discovered that the link doesn't go to our projects. Are you going to post them or have you decided not to? Gotta go folks...and thanks to all those awesome councilors at Hila...I may work with you next summer possibly. *!*~_RyAn_~*!* |

Comments: Hello all you good people at Hila, I was busy searching the net for a good team building activity for 40 Junior High teens that will be doing the 30 Hour Famine next month. When I found your geodesic dome project I new instantly that was the kind of project I was looking for. Easy, fun and visually very satisfying. I immediately went about making the suggested 50 cm dome so I could trrouble shoot any possible assembly difficulties before doning it with the group. ***Oh by the way, I plan to make a small modification to the scale of the dome by making a 3 meter diameter one and making two so we can put them together to make a globe. I have sourced lots of peel and stick vinal from a sign shop and I hope to scale the contenants so we can paint the globe ocean blue and then apply the contennants. As the theam of our fasting is becomming more aware of others and our need to make the world a better place, I thought the team project of making a huge world, would be very appropriate. If the weather is OK maybe we can all go outside to do the final assembly and take a picture of us all holding up or symbolicly elevating the world because of our increased awareness and caring. I have also lined up a group of international students from all over the world attending our local University College of Cape Breton to come and speack to us about their countries and cultures. If all goes well I will email the picture to you. Thank you so much for a great activity. Allan Mac neil |

Comments: Came accross this page looking for info on servo motors and downloaded everything in your projects section(computer engineering, electrinics, etc.)! This is really wonderful stuff you are doing. I wish I were close enough to send my kids(Austin, Texas). The projects I downloaded are for me (my kids are still young but I will be teaching them this stuff soon). As a kid, I used to love to play with motors and things, but never really put anything together. Well, this site has inspired me. I already have my 386 computer set up in my garage and am up to turning LEDs on and off through the parallel port. What fun stuff! I intend for my experimenting to culminate in an animatronic puppet of some sort. I wish I had seen this when I was about 8 yrs old. Thanks for the info, and I hope you continue to place more projects on the site. |
