Carol and Wayne Campbell
Carol and Wayne Campbell are the owners and directors of Hila. The Campbell's are experienced science teachers, each hold a science degree from the University of Waterloo. Recipients of the Prime Minister's Award for excellence in teaching Science, Technology and Mathematics, they have operated Hila since 1984.
Hila is a day camp for boys and girls ages 7 to 14, offering a variety of programs with an emphasis on science and technology. The Ottawa location for our day camp is Turnbull School on Fisher Avenue. Turnbull school is a modern facility with a large yard perfect for outdoor activities, modern computer labs and state of the art classrooms and labs.
The activities are all "hands-on" with numerous
take home projects - electronic weather stations, kites,
electromagnets, model aircraft, motors, printed photographs and digital
images, CD's, Digital Video, model cars, electronic computer
interfaces and more.
Campers taking General programs 1 or 2, will construct a model rocket. Each rocket will be
loaded with
a rocket engine and then test "flown" on the
Hila Rocket Sled . The model rocket accelerates while attached to
a wire guided sled.
We have a fully equipped biology lab at Turnbull school with microscopes, lab glassware and chemistry supplies - A Panoramic Image of the Biology Lab (Large file - 250K) "Scroll" around the lab.
All projects and models constructed at camp are yours to keep.
Our Beachburg location is the Hila Outdoor Centre close to Beachburg, Ontario.
Before and after camp child care is available.
